KEYS Empowers Brings Free Community Fish Fry and School Supply Giveaway to West Baltimore Students and Families

Local nonprofit supports the community by celebrating the new school year with resources and a performance by Pork Chop on Saturday, Sept. 5

BALTIMORE, GA, UNITED STATES, September 3, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- As Baltimore families begin the new school year, KEYS Empowers, a Baltimore-based nonprofit focused on healing, education and leadership, will host a free back-to-school community celebration serving the Rosemont and Coppin Heights communities on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Easterwood Park, 1530 N. Bentalou St. The event brings together students, families, community leaders and neighborhood partners for an afternoon of food, school supplies, music and community resources.

Beginning at 12:30 p.m., the event features a community fish fry with sides, food distribution, school-supply giveaway and music from the official DJ of the Baltimore Ravens, Pork Chop. Partners include Baltimore City Councilman John T. Bullock, District 9; incoming Delegate Tiffany Welch; Senator Antonio Hayes; among other elected officials and community leaders.

The event will also serve as the first community activation of the KEYS Community Ambassadors, a group of seven inaugural ambassadors who will help strengthen neighborhood outreach, volunteerism and community service throughout West Baltimore.
“Back-to-school season provides an opportunity for KEYS to return to the heart of our mission,” said KEYS Empowers Founder Mujahid Muhammad. “Preparing students for school means more than giving out supplies; it means making sure children and families know their community believes in them and is ready to support them. We are grateful to our community partners for helping us make sure each child knows they are valuable.”

Since its founding in 2009, KEYS Empowers (Keep Encouraging Youth to Succeed) has remained focused on helping Baltimore youth recognize their potential and connect with the opportunities and support they need to thrive. The back-to-school event continues that mission by addressing the immediate needs of students and families.

The event follows KEYS Empowers’ recent community food distribution, which served approximately 250 families, and is part of KEYS Empowers’ broader work to develop the KEYS Community Healing Village. The Village is a future space where community members can access mentorship, education and care while finding opportunities to connect, grow and belong.
The 501(c)(3) organization works to address the long-standing and far-reaching effects of trauma on families, individuals and youth in communities where access to resources remains limited.
